License Statistics real-time usage reporting works by gathering
real-time data and usage
statistics at specified intervals and storing the information in a MySQL
database.
The update interval cannot be less than 1 minute, which may
produce small
inaccuracies in the results, particularly when monitoring
applications that run for only several seconds. However, you can
easily see a trend over time, and for most applications (where users use
the
application for hours), the results average out.
Advantages to realtime usage include:
- You can set it up once and forget about it.
-
It gives you knowledge about current activity so you can answer questions about who is using the software now, which licenses are
over-utilized, who cannot access the software, which license servers are
down, and so on, all in real time.
License Statistics imported usage reporting is used for existing data
gathered from the log files of a variety of supported license
managers,(you can see a list of supported license managers at our KB article, Which license managers does License Statistics support?).
License Statistics imported usage reporting is useful for when you need
to reliably generate usage statistics for
applications that run for a very brief period of time (such as
compliers), and when you must have 100% accuracy in
the produced results.
License Statistics imported usage reports are also particularly
helpful for companies that do back-billing or pay-per-use billing. Additionally, since imported usage reporting does not require a connection to the license servers, it can be used for:
- Billing purposes, where the license servers are at the customer's site and License Statistics software is at the vendor's site.
- Analyzing data from remote license servers in departments that run on separate networks.
