If you use an external MySQL database, your data will be stored separately from License Statistics, so upgrading to new releases won't require restoring a database dump. However, it's still recommended to backup database data before reinstalling License Statistics. (See the related Knowledgebase article, "How to backup data from License Statistics.")

License Statistics works with MySQL 5.1 and newer. Additional server configuration is needed, as described in the related Knowledgebase article, "Settings for using an external MySQL database with License Statistics."
