To upgrade LM-X in order to get a newer version of the software, or after subscription renewal to avoid software expiration, follow the steps below.

  1. Download LM-X by logging into the X-Formation Support Portal and following the Download instructions.

  2. Unpack the downloaded distribution to a temporary folder.

  3. IMPORTANT: You should reuse your existing security configuration file (vendor.lmx) and avoid generating a new file. Copy the file to the Config directory under the newly downloaded distribution directory. In addition, you should use your existing lmxserverconf.c file if you made changes to it.

  4. Execute the makefile from the root directory of the LM-X distribution as specified in Step 1 of the Quick Start Guide.

  5. Finally, replace the old LM-X files with the new files to complete the upgrade. Important: Do not mix files between different distributions, as this can cause problems.

  6. Recompile and test your application with the new version of LM-X.

Compatibility notes:
  • Existing deployed client applications and existing license files will continue to work with the new version.

  • If you distribute floating licenses, your end users must also upgrade their LM-X license server, because the old license server cannot support new licenses (i.e., we cannot provide "future" compatibility). To upgrade the server at the end user site, stop the server, replace the executable, and restart the server. The new server will work with existing licenses.

  • If you are using any external shared libraries—for example, for .NET, Java, etc.—you must also deploy these new versions with your software.
For complete details on updating and maintaining LM-X, see the LM-X Developers Guide.
