You must activate your License Statistics license whenever you:
- Do a new installation
- Upgrade your license
- Renew your maintenance
Note: License activation is not necessary for demo versions.
When you activate your license, it generates a license file (*.lic) that you can reuse with new updates of the software (unless you're instructed to update the license for any reason). You should perform the license activation before attempting to start the software for the first time. For more information about installing and starting License Statistics, see the quickstart tutorial, "Installing License Statistics on Windows with a FLEXlm/FlexNet Server" or " Installing License Statistics on Unix with a FLEXlm/FlexNet Server."
There are two methods you may use to activate your license:
- Using the License Activation Tool (Windows only)
- Online through our Support Portal
To activate your license in Windows using the License Activation Tool:
- This tool opens automatically upon completing your License Statistics Windows installation.
You can also access this tool at any time from the X-Formation License Statistics program group:
(Start > All Programs > X-Formation License Statistics > Activate License Statistics)
- In the License Activation Tool, enter the Order ID you received in your software download email. You may also log into the Support Portal and locate the Order ID in the Licenses tab.

- If you already have a license file, instead of entering the Order ID, you can browse for and select the license file.

- When you are done entering your Order ID or selecting the license file, click Next to complete the activation.
- You can now run License Statistics (stop and start the Usage Monitor).
To activate your license online:
- Log into the Support Portal.
- Under the Licenses tab, enter your ETHERNET hostid.
To find the ETHERNET hostid, open the LM-X End-user Configuration Tool (lmxconfigtool.exe), located in your License Statistics directory under the license folder, and view the contents of the Hostid tab. If there are multiple ETHERNET hostids listed, you can use any one of them (usually the first on the list). On Unix, use command-line utility lmxenduser instead (./lmxenduser -hostid).
- Click Activate. After a few seconds, a Save license dialog will appear. Save the file in the license directory under the License Statistics root directory.
- You can now run License Statistics (stop and start the Usage Monitor).
